Sundown Sessions: Building A Foundation
As the weeks have flown by, we've been filled with gratitude for what Sundown Session has become. It's incredible to see how this gathering has turned into something so meaningful for so many. We've watched as people from all walks of life have joined us, and it’s heartwarming to note that our community is now a beautiful mix—about 50% from Narara Valley Baptist Church and 50% from the broader community.
For some, Sundown Sessions have become their personal church community, a place where they’ve found a sense of belonging. Others use it as a midweek boost, a place to recharge and spur on their faith between Sundays at their regular "churches". It's a reminder that the Church is more than just a building, it's a people, regardless of the institution you belong to.
One of the highlights of our time together was when Evan Lawrie led us through a reflective journey, helping us set meaningful goals for the year ahead. Our times of worship have also been moving. Every week, we’ve had the privilege of sharing communion together accompanied by Grant Booth’s music on guitar which has been a constant source of encouragement. There’s something special about the simplicity of these moments—the music, the bread and wine, the shared space of silence and song—that brings us together in a powerful way.
We’ve been blessed with consistent numbers, and it’s evident that God is doing something. Right now, we’re in prayer about our venue situation. There’s potential to secure a lease, but we’re waiting on some final decisions from the council and are eager to work collaboratively with our neighbouring businesses. We trust that we are in God’s hands, and wherever we end up, we know it will be exactly where we’re meant to be.
One of the most encouraging aspects of Sundown Session is the way everyone has stepped up to help, even without formal rosters. Every week, people bring food to share, and everyone pitches in with setting up and cleaning up. It’s been a true testament to the spirit of community that has grown among us. The children especially have found joy in serving—whether it’s collecting communion cups or handing out marshmallows, their enthusiasm is contagious and adds a special touch to our gatherings.
Thank you for being a part of this journey. Let’s keep praying, serving, and trusting that God will guide us every step of the way.
Project: Community Chaplaincy & Grant Applications
We are eagerly awaiting the outcome of grant applications and proposals that we’ve submitted to local organisations and the Central Coast Council. The first is aimed at employing Evan Lawrie as a community chaplain, a role we believe will make a significant impact in fostering care and support within our community.
The second proposal is for an initiative called "Sunday Rhythms," a dedicated rehearsal space where young musicians can hone their craft and connect with other local artists. This program will offer weekly jam sessions for youth, providing them with a creative outlet and a sense of community. Additionally, once a month, we’ll host a live jam session, inviting the broader community to come and enjoy the talent of these young musicians. We’re confident that "Sunday Rhythms" will not only encourage collaboration among young people but also help them develop their gifts and talents, creating a vibrant, supportive environment for the next generation of artists.
Itinerant ministry
One of the goals of A New Way is to support churches and organisations in need of speakers and presenters. Over the past month, we've had the privilege of hitting the road for three events.
"Firstly, I had the opportunity to fill a vacant pulpit at Carlton-Kogarah Baptist Church. Their regular pastor, who also serves as a military chaplain, was on leave for training. The community there was welcoming, and I truly enjoyed being a part of their congregation for the day. Secondly, I was invited to present at a Soul Survivor event in the Northern Beaches. Five local youth ministries gathered in unity, and I was asked to step in last minute as the scheduled speaker was unavailable. It was a fantastic experience to witness the enthusiasm and faith of these young people. Lastly, I partnered with "Musicians Making A Difference" to visit Rooty Hill High School. There, I ran music workshops focused on teaching students about the importance of unity and discovering their passions." - Lewis
These opportunities have been a testament to the mission of A New Way, and we look forward to continuing to serve and inspire communities in the future.
INSIGHT HIGHSCHOOL MINISTRIES
A New Way has been partnering with "Insight Highschool Ministries"! Lewis has been contracted to help find Chistian Youth Workers for local highschools. Over the last month, Lewis has interviewed five candidates and secured two potential new schools where Insight can be a real and genuine blessing in word and deed. If you would like to joing the Insight board, let us know! you could make a real difference in the lives of young people.
Reflection: Archimedes
"Hi, my name is Archimedes. A new way is great because we all learn about God together and have a blast while doing it. You get to know people and make friends along the way. There are usually lollies or cookies. And we even have a pool table and a drum kit that anyone can use! When we take communion together, at least to me I feel closer to God. So come along and have fun!"
